Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Grayson, née Wilkins), or simply Eve, is a superhero created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Cory Walker, currently drawn by Ryan Ottley. Eve first appeared in Invincible #1 (January 2003), as a major supporting character of the Image Universe. Eve also appears in Atom Eve & Rex Splode, Noble Causes, The Pact, Dynamo 5, The Tick, and Battle Beast; an evil alternate reality version of her called Atom Shiva additionally appears in Brit.

Created as part of a government experiment, Atom Eve is the an immortal reality warper, who initially dates Rex Splode before marrying Invincible. As a teenager, a mental block prevented her from creating and manipulating living things, which she eventually overcame in adulthood.

Atom Eve is voiced by Wendy Allyn in the 2008 motion comic series, and by Gillian Jacobs in the 2021 Amazon Invincible television series; Jazlyn Ione also voices a younger Eve in the 2023 Atom Eve television special. The character has received a positive critical reception.[1]

Fictional character biography[edit]

Invincible[edit]

In Invincible, Samantha Eve Wilkins is a former classmate of Mark Grayson's and member of the Teen Team (later the Guardians of the Globe) as the superhero Atom Eve. She can manipulate all matter, although a mental block has previously stopped her from creating and manipulating living things. Eventually, she and Mark realize their true feelings for each other and the pair start dating, fall in love, and get married after Eve gives birth to their daughter Terra, not using his powers during her pregnancy to prevent damage to the fetus.[2] Eventually, she breaks her previous mental limits and her powers are bolstered to nigh-omnipotent levels, though she retains the discipline to not utilize it on other beings. Breaking her limits allows her to match Mark's Viltrumite powers, and grow back her leg years after losing it. Sick of Earth after the utopian reign of Robot renders crime obsolete, she and Mark move to an alien planet with their daughter. After Mark is sent to an alternate past for years, Eve moves on and begins dating again, raising their daughter alone; on Mark's return, she joins him in facing off against the children of former Viltrumite leader Thragg. Decades later, on Eve's deathbed, she suddenly rejuvenates to her youth, and realises she is immortal, and so can be with Mark until the end of his millenia-long lifespan. 500 years later, Eve lounges as Mark thinks of Earth.[3]

Atom Eve & Rex Splode[edit]

In Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Eve is revealed to have been created as a result of a government experiment to create super-beings. In Invincible Presents: Atom Eve & Rex Splode, how she began dating Rex Splode is explored, whom she secretly kept in her room all through their teenage years.

Noble Causes[edit]

In Noble Causes, Atom Eve attends a party held at the Noble family mansion celebrating Race and Liz Noble's anniversary, as well as the funeral of Captain Dynamo.

The Pact[edit]

In The Pact, set shortly after Mark's breakup with Amber, Atom Eve attempts to convince Mark to accept Robot's offer to join the Guardians of the Globe, inadvertently inspiring him to form a team of his own.

The Tick[edit]

In The Tick Meets Invincible, the now-dating Atom Eve and Invincible are transported to the Tick's universe.[4]

Dynamo 5[edit]

In Dynamo 5, Atom Eve is again shown among those attending Captain Dynamo's funeral.

Battle Beast[edit]

In Battle Beast, a one-shot published in a 2022 issue of Skybound X as a "pilot" for a potential Invincible spin-off comic book series, Atom Eve cameos in the opening scene, repeating Battle Beast's encounter with her from the former's perspective.[5]

Other versions[edit]

Brit[edit]

In Brit: Fubar, an alternate reality version of Eve called "Atom Shiva" is introduced, a supervillain who forms a power couple with Hex Splode, and their pet Monstous Girl, collectively known as "The Emperor's Elite", in service of the Geldarians following their conquest of Earth. Having used to date Invincible, this Eve is outraged when he punches out Rex, before she herself is knocked out by Tech Jacket.

Reboot?[edit]

In Invincible: Reboot?, an alternate reality version of Eve is introduced who due to Mark's impact on the past, remains with Rex. Not wishing this reality to remain the constant, due to how their daughter would be erased from reality, although less people would die in the future than in his home reality, Mark rejects the will of the "gods" who sent him there, and returns to his home reality, erasing this Eve from existence.

Powers and abilities[edit]

Created as a result of a government experiment to create super-beings, Atom Eve can manipulate all matter, creating constructs of pink energy,[6] although a mental block has previously stopped her from creating and manipulating living things. On breaking this mental limit, her powers are bolstered to nigh-omnipotent levels, though she retains the discipline to not utilize it on other beings, with these limits allowing her to match the Viltrumite powers of her eventual husband Mark Grayson, including superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as the ability to fly.[7]

In other media[edit]
